Sierra 220 MK loaded to 2.089 OAL (this length is optimal for reliable feeding from USGI magazines)Įxisting AR magazines have a rib which normally contacts the 5.56mm case-neck.Look for a load which results in a cyclic rate of 700 rpm or more.ĪA1680 is recommended because its bulk density matches the case capacity and it will generate enough gas pressure to cycle the weapon. These loads pay no attention to automatic rifle function and should not be used. Or for ARs by people not aware of the magazine limitations. Many existing loads were developed for Thompson Center® single-shot pistols, Recommended powder for most supersonic loads is Hodgdon H110.įor subsonic, there are special requirements and nearly all published loads are non-optimal for the 300 BLK upper. If you load your own ammo, pay special attention to all of the normal safety practices. Listed Below is the suggested loading info released by AAC. Since the 300 AAC BLACKOUT is an official SAAMI spec cartridge now, hopefully more innovation in this platform will come about. This looks like it will be a nice solution in many areas. As it stands the Hornady 55gr FMJ bullet, any LC brass, 26.2 gr H335 and Rem BR primers is my "General Purpose" load.I have been intrigued by the new incarnation of the SSK "300 Whisper®" concept introduced this month by AAC. I plan to chrono this load throughout the winter into the heat of next summer to see if anything unusal pops up at the end of the temperature extremes. Worst accuracy came with the CCI #41 primers. I got best accuracy across several AR-15s with 26.2 gr H335 and Remington BR primers. I did some testing with LC83, LC87, LC 89 and LC01 brass and didn't find any great difference in velocity. 26.2 gr doesn't show any abnormal pressure signs in any of my ARs. Looks like you had similar results as mine. The results posted in the manual for a longer barrel do yield higher values, but it would appear that the value of the NATO ammunition in that barrel would yield even greater values. I feel that your data with the HBAR barrel and my data with the Noveski 16 inch barrel allow me to settle on the 26.2 grains and not exceed 3100 fps. I decided to add another 0.2 grains to equal the 26.2 H335 that you had tested. I did not notice any signs of too much pressure.
